Species with a wide distribution, nesting in the Aleutian Islands, in Bearing Sea, Alaska Peninsula, Gulf of Alaska, Chukchi Sea, and Beaufort Sea.

The Alaskan breeding population is estimated at least 900000 birds at 608 colony sites. The largest colonies are located on Semidi, Shumagin e Sanak islands.


It nests along rocky coastlines and islands in North Pacific Ocean, in burrows on talus slopes and crevices on rocky cliffs. It winters in the sea, in North Pacific Ocean.
