The Alaskan breeding population is estimated at 1000000 birds at 195 colony sites. The St. George colony contains over 50% of the Alaska population.
Habitat
It nests on sea coasts and offshore islands, mainly in crevices on rocky sea cliffs, but also in burrows on talus slopes and on rocky beaches. It feeds on open sea.Threats
