Description

This area is part of the Exclusive Economic Zone of Spain, off Cape Estaca de Bares that is northernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula and the southwest end of the Gulf of Biscay.

Ornithological importance

This area is very important because it is part of the migratory route of many seabirds, especially the Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus), Pomarine Jaeger (Stercorarius pomarinus), Great Skua (Catharacta skua), Sandwich Tern (Sterna sandvicensis), Black Scoter (Melanitta nigra), Cory's Shearwater (Calonectris diomedea), Great Shearwater (Puffinus gravis), Sooty Shearwater (Puffinus griseus), Manx Shearwater (Puffinus puffinus), Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) and Razorbill (Alca torda).
