Description

This area covers an island of volcanic origin and is located on the east coast of Scotland in the North Atlantic Ocean.
In the area there are the following habitats: maritime area, rocky island and coastal cliffs.

Ornithological importance

The Bass Rock is one of the largest Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) colony in the world (is estimated to be about 150000 birds). Also noteworthy for the occurrence of Razorbill (Alca torda), Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica), Common Guillemot (Uria aalge) and the Black-legged Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla).
