Description

This area is located in the upper Alentejo and includes mostly rolling plains (pseudo-steppe zones). In the area there are the following habitats: streams, forests (montados), and farms with extensive cereal crops in rotation with other crops like sunflower. Pastoralism is practiced in the fallows.

Ornithological importance

This is an important area for steppe birds with emphasis on the Great Bustard (Otis tarda), Eurasian Thick-knee (Burhinus oedicnemus), the Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni), the Common Crane (Grus grus), Montagu's Harrier (Circus pygargus), and Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax).
