Description

This area is located in the Alentejo along the border with Spain. In the area there are the following habitats: streams with riparian vegetation, valleys with steep slopes, scrubs, forests (montados), grasslands, and farms with cereal crops. In the forests (montados) the cork oak, holm oak and olive tree predominate.

Ornithological importance

This is an important area for prey and steppe birds with emphasis on the Great Bustard (Otis tarda), Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Spanish Imperial Eagle (Aquila adalberti), Short-toed Snake-eagle (Circaetus gallicus), Eurasian Thick-knee (Burhinus oedicnemus), Black-bellied Sandgrouse (Pterocles orientalis), Common Crane (Grus grus), Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax), and Montagu's Harrier (Circus pygargus).
