Description

This area is located in the Rift Valley in Kenya and includes one of two freskwater lakes of the valley, the other being the lake Naivasha.
In the area there are the following habitats: freshwater lake, islands, swamps, savanna and florests.

Ornithological importance

In this area there is a record of at least 470 species. It is an important wetland area due to the high number of waterfowl that use as staging or wintering ground.Highlight to the Bristle-crowned Starling (Onychognathus salvadorii), Goliath Heron (Ardea goliath), Hemprich's Hornbill (Tockus hemprichii), Jackson's Hornbill (Tockus jacksoni), Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni), Martial Eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus), Pallid Harrier (Circus macrourus), Saddle-billed Stork (Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis), White-backed Duck (Thalassornis leuconotus) and White-headed Vulture (Trigonoceps occipitalis).
