This area is located in the northwest of Boavista Island in Cape Verde archipelago, and includes the mouth of the Ribeira do Rabil and adjacent areas.
In the area there are the following habitats: coastal lagoon, temporary streams, sand-dunes, and shrubland.

Ornithological importance

In this area there are records of the Iago Sparrow (Passer iagoensis), endemic species of Cape Verde, Greater Hoopoe-lark (Alaemon alaudipes boavistae), Bar-tailed Lark (Ammomanes cinctura), Black-crowned Sparrow-lark (Eremopterix nigriceps), Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), and Brown-necked Raven (Corvus ruficollis). Highlight, also, for the occurrence of nationally important wintering populations of Sanderling (Calidris alba), Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus), Grey Plover (Pluvialis squatarola), and Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres).
