Pelagic species with a very small population (actual no. in the order of 100 individuals) and has a small distribution area.
Migratory species, nesting only on an island in the Atlantic (Madeira) in burrows on rocky slopes with lots of vegetation in the interior mountains and wintering at sea in the Atlantic Ocean (Macaronesia).
The evolution trend of the global population is stable, however the impact of the fire that occurred in 2010 in the nesting area is unknown.
